What Are Cookies and Tracking Technologies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit, such as your preferences or login status.

Besides cookies, we also use other similar tracking technologies, including:

  • Web beacons and pixels: Tiny images used to track page visits and user behavior.
  • Local storage: Browser storage that persists data across sessions without expiration.
  • Session storage: Temporary browser storage cleared when you close your browser.
  • SDKs (Software Development Kits): Code integrated into our mobile app to track user behavior, crashes, and analytics.

Caliplaces uses these technologies to improve your experience, understand how our platforms are used, and personalize content.

Legal Basis for Cookie Usage

We operate under the following legal frameworks:

  • ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC (as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC): Requires consent for storage of or access to information already stored on a user's terminal equipment, except where strictly necessary for service provision.
  • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU 2016/679): Requires a legal basis for processing personal data. For non-essential cookies, we rely on your explicit consent.
  • Czech Act No. 480/2004 Coll. (Act on Certain Information Society Services): Implements the ePrivacy Directive requirements in Czech law.

Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent as they are essential for providing the service you requested. All other cookies require your prior consent before we place them on your device.

PostHog Analytics (EU Instance)

We use PostHog, an open-source product analytics platform hosted on EU servers, for:

  • Event Tracking: Track user interactions, feature usage, and user flows
  • Session Replay: Record and replay user sessions (with privacy controls) to understand behavior
  • Feature Flags: Test new features with select user groups
  • Heatmaps & Recordings: Visual analytics to identify usability issues

PostHog processes your data on EU servers and is compliant with GDPR. You can opt out of PostHog tracking through our cookie consent manager.

Vercel Analytics

Vercel Analytics collects performance and web vitals data to help us optimize website speed and user experience. This is minimalist analytics with no tracking of individual users.

In-App Tracking & SDKs

Our mobile app includes third-party Software Development Kits (SDKs) that serve similar purposes to cookies. Unlike cookies, these SDKs are not stored as HTTP cookies but are built directly into the app code:

PostHog SDK (Mobile)

The PostHog SDK is integrated into our mobile app to track:

  • User interactions and feature usage
  • App crashes and performance issues
  • Feature adoption and funnel analytics

Data is sent to PostHog's EU instance and is subject to GDPR protections.

Sentry SDK (Mobile & Web)

Sentry monitors application errors and performance issues:

  • Crash reporting and stack traces
  • Performance monitoring
  • Error tracking and alerting

We use Sentry primarily for debugging and improving platform stability, not for behavioral analytics.

Firebase (Prepared Infrastructure)

While not currently active, our mobile app is prepared to integrate Firebase for:

  • Push notifications
  • App performance monitoring
  • Remote configuration and feature rollouts

If Firebase is activated, we will update this policy and obtain fresh consent where required.

Mobile App Privacy Controls

You can control tracking in your mobile app settings:

  • iOS: Go to Settings → Caliplaces → Privacy and adjust tracking preferences
  • Android: Go to Settings → Apps → Caliplaces → Permissions and manage data collection settings
